Fruits of your Labour

If life was a little easier, I’d have been able to start my business, being good at what I do would be enough. But no, unfortunately not, it’s pretty hard these days to just get by by just being good at what you do in the small business world.

I realised after my first 6 months that if I was going to be able to continue to operate i’d have to get better at marketing. Not exactly what really floats my boat, and i’d love to be able to outsource it, and one day hopefully will, but for now, that job remains mine.
I’ve slowly come to learn to enjoy it more, and as i’m naturally internally driven by not being good at something and slowly getting better at something until i’m somewhat competent, i’ll keep plugging away.
One of the things I learnt from one of the many ‘gurus’ out there that has actually felt true is that you most likely won’t see the results of your marketing efforts start to some through till about 3 months after your effort. Gotta learn to love that delayed gratification thing.
And so, if i’m doing some organic instagram things, I can’t expect a reel or post from that week to result in a lead coming through the same week. Most likely it’s from continued effort for months before i’ll see that effort result in someone contacting me about my services.
And so, it made me think about training in Winter. It’s hard to train in winter. There’s less motivation, it’s cold, dark and a warm comfy bed is way more inviting than getting up to train.
But, the results of our effort of training in Winter will be starting to take place as we head into Spring and the warmer months where we might feel more motivated to take action.
If we want to be feeling strong and fit heading into Summer, then the work needs to happen now. If we’re likely to be outside more in Summer, playing
with the kids on the beach, carrying all the shit that goes with that, or generally being a bit more active and social and we want to be feeling good going into that period of the year then, we want to build up that base as the fruits of our labour will take some time to materialise.
Just as you would prep for any competition, race or fitness endeavour, you would unlkiley be giving your self 2-4 weeks of training before going for it, you’d most likely be planning a good 3-6 months ahead of time, and so we should see winter as a prep phase for a strong and let’s not lie, a busy summer period, because life gets a bit out of control in that lead up to Xmas right, so do some ground work now my friends and give your self the gift of resilience and discipline because you will love yourself for that.
