Progress and subtle wins

So I was chatting with a client last night and she told me a story about something that I thought was really important to share.

So she has been training at BOX. for about 7 months now and at first it was just about getting to the gym, building a new routine and creating new habits. 7 months later and she is so so consistent, committing to 2 workouts a week and rarely missing that.

Anyway, she said last night that she was out for a walk with a friend in Glenrock on the weekend. She's done the walk many times before, and there's one bit of it an uphill part that is always really hard and she doesn't look forward to. So this time, busy in conversation with her friend and 7 months of consistent strength, conditioning and boxing workouts, and she didn't even realise they had done that part of the walk.

She said did we really just do that bit, I didn't even notice.

Well, that lit me up like a Christmas tree :)

You see it's so easy to get bogged down in the business of life, the day to day, that you may not even realise that you're fitter than you think, you're fitter than you were 3 months ago, you're stronger than you were 6 months ago. It's easy to not notice because often its hard to notice in the day to day.

But every now and then, there is a situation that comes along that makes you think ,hey, that was easier than before, and that happens because you're body adapts to the stress you put it through in your workouts, and the consistency of showing up.

And the other part to it I love, is that workouts are just better with others, whether you're having a long chat, or even just a subtle comment during the pain, you're there together, in it together, and I believe it makes you capable of more.

So look for those subtle wins, notice those times that you don;'t need as many breaks, you recover a bit quicker between rounds, you pick the next size weight up, you do things now that would have absolutely cooked you before.

Becasue it happens slowly week to week, it's hard to notice that you're making progress, sorry that that my bones are giving me a weekly memo to let me know that I saved some of their density.

As a coach I get to see it from the outside and I can tell we notice this stuff all the time, the commitment, the workout you did when you wanted to sleep, the extra hard rep, all of it.

Keep going legends!!! Chances are you're doing better than you think.
